John Keith Eaton

John Keith Eaton, 61, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:26 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

 Born April 26, 1963, in Seymour, he was the son of the late Marvin and Mary Jo (Carnes) Eaton. He married Kim Chastain on November 13, 1982, at the Scipio United Methodist Church in Scipio.

John was a 1981 graduate of Jennings County High School and was a lifelong farmer. He had also worked for Eaton’s Feed Mill for five years, Wilson Machine Shop for two years, Erler Industries for 16 years and Carpenter Body Works for five years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in North Vernon, St. Ann’s Catholic Church and Pioneer Engineers Club of Indiana. John enjoyed being outdoors, attending tractor pulls and shows with his son, mushroom hunting with his daughter, road cruises with his wife and golf cart rides with the grandkids and watching football. He liked campfires at the family pond and hanging out in the shop with his buddies.

Surviving with his wife, Kim are his son, Chris (Cynthia) Eaton of North Vernon; his daughter, April Eaton of North Vernon; brothers, Paul (Sherry) Eaton of North Vernon and Steve (Debbie) Eaton of Grammer; sisters, Dot Laudermilk of Seymour, Janet Eaton  and Suzanne Spencer, both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Logan Eaton and Bristol Eaton both of North Vernon; aunt, Connie Day of North Vernon; thirteen nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Wallace and Dorothy Eaton and Joe and Marie Carnes; grandson, Brayden Eaton; and nephew, Devin Chastain.

A funeral service for John will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Deacon Larry French officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday. A rosary service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. The burial will follow the service on Monday in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of John for expenses or the Pioneer Engineers Club of Indiana.
