John Robert Lindsay, 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:06 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in North Vernon. Born August 24, 1944, in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Thomas William and Louise Cecilia (Mick) Lindsay.
John attended Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis and worked as a groundskeeper for the Muscatatuck County Park before retiring in 2003 and had previously worked for Decatur Plastics as a press operator for eight years. John attended the First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon and was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church. His enjoyments were hunting, fishing, and collecting stamps and baseball caps.
Survivors include his son, Jeffrey Large; nieces and nephews: Thomas Jones, Lisa Cardone, Kevin Jones, Laura Hughes, and Amy Sarcar, all of Shreveport, LA, and a wagon full of great-nieces and great-nephews who learned from Uncle John the thrill and charm of life on a farm. The most important lesson was to wake up early, stay up late, and fill the day with wading, stickball, sodas, cards, and as much childhood as possible.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his companion, Brenda McMillian; his sister, Mary Catherine Jones; and his beloved dog Spanky. We would like to thank the Daeger family for sharing our adventures and providing so many years of care and community.
Per John’s wishes, he was cremated. A graveside service for family and friends will 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, in the St. Ann’s Cemetery in North Vernon with Rev. Jerry Byrd officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Jennings County Animal Shelter or the charity of your choice.
