Kalon Watts

Kalon Watts, 70, of Scipio, passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Kalon was born on April 30, 1950, in Letcher County, Kentucky. He was the son of Allard Watts Sr. and Anna Cornett Watts. He married Marilyn Goodin on December 5, 1975, in Columbus; she survives.

Kalon was a 1968 graduate of Letcher County High School and worked as a machinist for Cummins Engine Company, retiring in 2006 after 37 years. He worked part-time for Country Mart in North Vernon and was a member of the NRA and a former member of Bass & Fishing Club in Columbus. Kalon enjoyed hunting; fishing; and watching Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith, and westerns. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren shoot archery.

Surviving with his wife, Marilyn, are his daughter, Christy (Jeff) Evans of Madison; grandchildren, Jacob Evans and Gracie Evans, both of Madison; brothers, Fred (Barbara) Watts of Marysville, Darrell (Edith) Watts of Morgantown, Robert (Betty) Watts of Scipio, Kenneth (Rhonda) Watts of Sunman, and Allard (Darlene) Watts Jr. of Cornettsville, Kentucky; sisters, Mavis (Ernest) Watts of Ulvah, Kentucky, Sherlene (Eddie) Spangler of Ison, Kentucky, and Elvenia (Larry) Boggs of Corbin, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Ira Lee, John S., Hillard, and Vennis Watts.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Danny Dixon officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Dupont Cemetery in Dupont. ** Family request that casual clothing be worn to the visitation and service in honor of Kalon.**
