Karen Eileen Gadd, 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:05 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
Born January 31, 1946, in Milan, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Leroy Ryker Sr. and Flora Montz Shannon Ryker. She married Daniel Gadd on April 20, 1965, in Indianapolis; he survives.
Karen was a 1964 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School in Osgood. She worked as a DST at the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for 39 years before she retired in 2003. She also worked for ResCare in Dupont for ten years and Help at Home from 2021-2003. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and reading.
Surviving with her husband of 60 years, Daniel, is her son, Danny (Heather) Gadd of North Vernon; brother, Floyd Leroy Ryker Jr. of Rising Sun; grandchildren, Nicholas Alan Gadd and Andrew Rockey, both of North Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Gadd; and sisters, Floretta Jean Jarvis, LaVerne Pratt and Doris Evelyn Ryker.
A funeral service for Karen will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Richard Schenck officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday. The burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
