Katherine Louise Waltermire, 93, of Debary, Florida, passed away at her home on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at 12:35 p.m.
Born February 24, 1930, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of the late John Frank and Ruth Ordell (Chrysty) Robbins. She married Earl E. Schneider on May 5, 1982; he preceded her in death in October that year. She later married James Waltermire on November 24, 1988, in Columbus; he preceded her in death on February 2, 2013.
Katherine graduated from Hayden High School in 1948. She worked for Home Health Care in Columbus, as a traffic manager in Washington, Iowa, and at Northrupp King Seed Company. She was a former member of the Red Hat Ladies, VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Seymour, Smiling Seniors in North Vernon, Hayden Historical Society, Hayden United Methodist Church, Royal Neighbors, DeLeon United Methodist Church in DeLeon Springs, Florida, United Methodist Church in Columbus, and United Methodist Church in Washington, Iowa. She loved camping, square dancing, crafts, ceramics, gardening, flowers, and genealogy. She enjoyed helping with youth camp and being a member of Smiling Seniors.
She is survived by her son, Larry Wayne (Sue) Custer of Missouri; daughter, Darla Kay Custer of Debary, Florida; grandchildren, Christy (John) Weller of Heyworth, Illinois, Brett (Alyssa) Custer of Bloomington, Illinois, Allison Baker of Sanford, Florida, and Shawn Custer and Michelle (Ben) Green, both of Clinton, Missouri; step grandchildren, Patrick Bland of Portland, Indiana, Brian Bland and Laura Bland, both of Union City, Ohio, Cody Kreutzjans, Santana Kreutzjans, and Deanna Simmons, all of North Vernon, and Amanda Bower of Butlerville; and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her third husband, Earl; her fourth husband, James; son, Steven Douglas Custer; brothers, Gilbert Eugene Robbins, James Donald Robins, and William Franklin Robbins; sister, Mabel L. Christian; grandson, Tyler Baker; and step grandsons, Tommy Waltermire and Paul Ethan Waltermire Marling.
A funeral service for Katherine will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Ed Mead officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in honor of Katherine through the funeral home to the Hayden Historical Museum or the Hayden United Methodist Church.
