Laurie "Gigi" (Porter) Lee

Laurie “Gigi” Lee, 62, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:09 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at her residence.

Born February 16, 1961, in Danville, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Geraldine (Daugherty) Hawkins and Chester Porter.

Laurie graduated from Danville High School and received her nursing degree from Danville Area Community College, both in Danville, Illinois. She worked as a home health nurse and found great enjoyment and fulfillment in her work. Her gift in life was caring for others, no matter where they were at in their journey. She loved spending time with her grandchildren; doing projects such as woodburning and making homemade Christmas presents for her family; animals, especially giraffes; and living in her RV. Laurie was a passionate women’s rights advocate.

She is survived by her son, Laryn Little of California; daughters, Lisha (Justin) Watts of North Vernon and Lisabeth Little and Liberty Little, both of Lafayette; sisters, Veronica Dunlap of Brighton, Illinois, Kathy (Michael) Wimble of California, and Anita (Scot) Merrill of Whiteland; grandchildren, Harlan Watts, Sawyer Watts, and Stella Watts, all of North Vernon; and her cats, Effue and Zoey.

She was preceded in death by her mother and her niece, Lori Lynn Vandygriff.

In keeping with her and her family’s wishes, Laurie will be taken to Colorado where composting is planned. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home was entrusted with these arrangements.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Laurie to the Indy Humane Society in honor of her dog, Rosa.
