Lawrence Everett Buchanan Sr., 80, of North Vernon, passed away at 9:17 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Miller’s Mary Manor in Hope.
Born May 12, 1944, in North Vernon, he was the son of the late Adrian L. and Ruth (Aeschbocker) Buchanan. He married Stefani Amitrano on October 25, 1964, at Duluth Air Force Base in Minnesota. She preceded him in death.
Lawrence served in the United States Air Force from June 21, 1961, until his retirement on September 31, 1987. After his retirement, he worked for the Jefferson Proving Grounds in Madison, the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville, and Lowes. He was a former member of the Nazarene Church in Hampton, Virginia and attended the North Vernon Church of the Nazarene. Lawrence enjoyed fishing, hunting and birdwatching. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Michael Joseph Buchanan of Duluth, Minnesota; his daughter, Dawn Marie (Mark) Williams of North Vernon; brothers, Arthur Buchanan of North Vernon and Mark (Linda) Buchanan of Florida; grandchildren, Chase (Megan) Buchanan, Stefani (Preston) Teltow, and Joseph Buchanan, all of Columbus, Katelyn (Jaylen) Kirchner and Phillip (Charity) Wilhelm, both of North Vernon, and Bryan (Taylor) Buchanan of North Carolina; and great-grandchildren, Hadley Wilhelm, Raegan Wilhelm, Waylon Wilhelm, and Kinzleigh Kirchner, all of North Vernon, Connor Buchanan, Luke Buchanan, Evie Buchanan, Ellie Teltow, Avery Teltow, Xander Buchanan, and Jax Buchanan, all of Columbus, and Collin Buchanan, Scotty Buchanan, and Zoé Buchanan, all of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Lawrence Buchanan Jr.; and his sister, Naomi Mullikin.
A funeral service for Lawrence will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Caleb Reynolds officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Monday from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with military graveside honors by members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Lawrence to the North Vernon Church of the Nazarene.
