Leonard Richard Meek

Leonard Richard Meek, 88, of North Vernon, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, in North Vernon.

Born July 16, 1937, in Jennings County, he was the son of the late Ivan Fletcher and Mary Jeanetta Mousa Meek. He married Bonnie Wilkerson on January 26, 1958, at the First Christian Church in North Vernon; she survives.

Leonard was a 1955 graduate of Vernon High School. He worked at Cummins Engine Company briefly, delivered fuel for Palmer’s Sinclair Oil Company for a short time, and worked for Dean Pearcy Marathon and then Bob Helm Marathon Gas Station as a gas attendant and mechanic in North Vernon. As well as being a lifetime farmer, raising livestock, corn, soybeans, wheat and hay until retiring in 2019.  He was a past Deacon and Sunday School superintendent at Zion Baptist Church, and presently a member of Jennings Church of Christ where he faithfully attended every Sunday, and a former member of Farm Bureau. Leonard enjoyed farming and raising cattle and hogs.

Surviving with his wife of 68 years, Bonnie; are his daughters, Donna (Randall) Kelley of Seymour, Patricia (Dwayne) Sporleder and Mary Catherine (Joseph) Wade, both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Matthew (Shylah) Kelley of North Vernon, Daniel (Samantha) Kelley of Seymour, Jennifer (David) Carson of Seymour, Rachel (David) Tatham of Columbus, Shanna (Daniel) Wiechel of Missouri, Stacey (Trevor) Patterson of North Vernon, Samantha (Robert) Williams of Rochester, Joshua, Jonathan, Jeremiah, and Jessica Wade, all of North Vernon; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Lonnie Ivan Meek.

The funeral service for Leonard will be at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Marcus Speer officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be later in the Vernon Cemetery.
