Lois Burton Obituary

Lois Fay Burton, 77, of Scipio, passed away at 12:29 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, surrounded by her family at the Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

She was born on April 4, 1946, in Bartholomew County, and was the daughter of Oakley “Brownie” Brown Sr. and Beulah (Mays) Brown. She married James Burton on November 9, 1963, in Bartholomew County; he preceded her in death on February 2, 2010.

Lois was a waitress for many years before she retired. She was a member of New Beginnings Church of God in Seymour. Lois enjoyed shopping, collecting movies, watching western movies, and helping others.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandy (Ron) Rosenbalm of Scipio, Sonya Rose of Madison and Kim (Travis) Burton of Foley, Alabama; son, James (Holly) Burton of Madison; brothers, Jack Brown of Florida, Danny Brown of Indianapolis, Carson Brown of Madison, Robert Brown of Texas, and Rex Brown and Steve Marcum, both of Columbus; sisters, Helen (Jess) Alpha of Nashville, Stella (Donnie) Buchanan of Franklin, and Sharon Brown of Columbus; grandchildren, Russell (Brandy) Waltman Sr. and Culley Burton, both of Indianapolis, Jacob Burton of Taylorsville, and Sarah Burton of Florida; great-grandchildren, Kingston Waltman, Zane Waltman, and Gracie Calhoun, all of Indianapolis, Chyanne Waltman and AJ Waltman, both of Jacksonville, Florida, Axel Waltman and Emi Wattman, both of Mississippi, Rachel Waltman of Madison, and Russell Waltman Jr. of Scipio; three great-great-grandchildren, Aubrey Waltman, Tjay Calhoun and Keke Calhoun all of Indianapolis; and along with several others who called her mom.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Oakley and James Brown Jr.; and grandson, AJ Waltman.

A funeral service for Lois will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Rev. Sean Eversole officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m.  until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Scipio Cemetery in Scipio.

Memorials may be made in honor of Lois through the funeral home to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
