Lucy Jeanette (White) Kelley

Lucy Jeanette Kelley, 95, of Scipio, passed away at 3:45 p.m. on September 21, 2025, at the Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.

Born September 2, 1930, in Scipio, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Mary Ellen (Black) White. She married Edgar James Kelley on December 24, 1949, in North Vernon; he preceded her in death on December 4, 2008.

Lucy was a 1949 graduate of North Vernon High School and ran the Scipio Grocery for 25 years. She was a former member of the Scipio Presbyterian Church, a member of Red Hatters, Scipio Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, and a volunteer at the Jennings County Senior Center. Lucy enjoyed fishing, family time, embroidering, crocheting, going to the casino, and playing euchre and bingo.

Survivors include her daughter, Ann Whitehead of Seymour; her son, Michael (Leeann) Kelley of Scipio; grandchildren, Kelli (Doug) Gresham of Seymour, Hannah (Donnie Cherestal) Hirtzel of Brooklyn, New York, Michael (Ashley Clark) Kelley and Lyndsay (Dennis) Pittman, both of North Vernon; great-grandchildren, Kayden, Deagan, Liam, and Finn Gresham, all of Seymour, Everett, Madison, Carlee, and Ean Kelley, all of North Vernon and Jayden and Jayece Bellamy, both of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law, William “Bill” Whitehead, brothers, Ernest, Daniel, Willard, Stanley and Nathan White; sisters, Alpha Davis, Nellie Miller, Jessie Traylor, Mae Dean, and Jean Olds.

A funeral service for Lucy will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Jeff Evans officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. The burial will follow in the Scipio Cemetery in Scipio.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Lutheran Home Activities Fund in Seymour.
