Luther Carroll New

Luther Carroll New,82, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:40 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Hosparus Health in Louisville.

Born May 10, 1942, in Carroll County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Luther and May (Willhoite) New. He married Rosa Ritchie on March 1, 2003, in North Vernon; she survives.

Luther attended school in Carroll County, Kentucky until the 10th grade. He worked as an associate pastor of Pentecostal Church in North Vernon. He drove a dozer for T & C Construction in Louisville, Kentucky for 10 years. Luther also worked at Cane Run Power Plant and did farming. Luther enjoyed mowing grass, whittling, loved being a big cut up, and playing the auto harp.

Surviving is his wife of 22 years, Rosa, and his daughter Shari (James) Proctor, of Carroll County, Kentucky; stepdaughter Caroline Pearl, of Westport; stepsons, Jackie Russell, of North Vernon and Jonathin Russell, both of North Vernon; brother, Bobby New, of Carroll County, Kentucky; grandsons, Dusty Proctor, Scott Proctor, Luke Proctor, Riley Bolton and Tanner Bolton; great-grandsons, Remington and Daxton; and great-granddaughters, Coralee, Emersyn and Emmalynn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Genie Bolton; and brothers, Roy, June and Toad.

A funeral for Luther will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Leslie Hart and Rev. Jackie Russell officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made in honor of Luther through the funeral home to the National Kidney Foundation for Kidney and Renal Failure Research or the American Cancer Society.
