M. Joann (Ernstes) Dickinson

M. Joann Dickinson, 80, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:32 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Born October 29, 1939, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of David Benjamin and Beatrice Mae (Vanderbur) Ernstes. She married Charles Dickinson on July 3, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana; he preceded her in death in 1982.

Joann worked 10 years at the North Vernon Wal-Mart in shipping and as a greeter before she retired. She previously worked in packing, shipping and checking for Jenn Acres Farms for 15 years and at the former Danner’s Department Store.  She enjoyed fishing, traveling and sitting on her back porch.

Survivors include her sons, David (Linda) Dickinson of North Vernon and Mark (Angie Stout) Dickinson of Butlerville; daughter, Debra (Bernard) Brennan of North Vernon;  brothers, Robert (Georgia) Ernstes of Commiskey and Joseph Ernstes of Madison; sisters, Margaret (Richard) Lucas and Mary Lamaster both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Lesley (Bobby) Jacobs, Tobie (Alanna) Dickinson, Timmy (Dana) Brennan, and Mistie Dickinson, all of North Vernon, Ashley (Jerry) Boling of Kent, Kristie Dickinson of Scottsburg, Zachary Dickinson, Avery Dickinson, and David Dickinson all of Butlerville; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Michael D. Ernstes; sisters, Dorothy Hoylt and Catherine Hodge; grandson, Charles Josirah Dickinson; and great-grandchildren, Kainna Dickinson and Willow Hope Jacobs.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Dan Corbin officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery.
