Mabel LaVern Christian, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:16 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.
Born December 13, 1934, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of John Frank and Ruth Ordell (Chrysty) Robins. She married John Christian on February 26, 1953, in North Vernon; he preceded her in death.
Mabel was a 1953 graduate of Hayden High School and owned and operated Mabel’s Beauty Shop in Jackson County from 1961-1979; she was also a farmer and a loving member of Queensville Christian Church in Queensville. Mabel enjoyed playing euchre, fishing, camping and gardening.
Survivors include her son, John A. Christian Sr. of Philippines; daughter, Vickie Kolb of Richmond; sister, Katherine Waltermire of Orange City, Florida; and grandchildren, Amanda (Josh) Hartman, Brittany (Doug) Ullery, Candace (Daniel) McCorquodale, Erik Kolb, Flint Kolb, and Tiani Christian, all of Richmond, Derek (Luisa) Kolb of Indianapolis, John A. Christian Jr. of Steubenville, Ohio, and Shawn (Dana) Christian of Vallonia; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Gilbert Eugene, James Donald, and William Franklin Robins; and one grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Pastor Tom Ramey officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of Mabel through the funeral home to Queensville Community Church.
