Marcia Jo "Joey" Conner, Born April 8, 1937, passed away at Majestic Health care in North Vernon.
She was the daughter of George and Marie Cook of Columbus, IN. She attended First Christian Church in Columbus. She enjoyed playing Dominos and belonged to a card club for many years. She enjoyed traveling with the Mill Race Senior Citizen group.
She is survived by a sister Mary Lea Caplinger of Johnson County, a daughter Cindy (Harold) Altepeter of North Vernon, and sons Jayson (Helen) Wingham of Hope, and Andrew (Judy) Wingham of Columbus, and grandchildren Shauna (Brad) Summers, Sara (John) Beal, Mackenzie (Dylan) Johnson, Marin (Logan) Schumacher, and Macy (Nick) Bridgewater, and eight great grandchildren.
Joey was a caregiver for many children over the years at her in home daycare center in Columbus. On the weekends, you could find her riding her jet ski and boating at Shafer Lake in Hope. She always had a love for the water. She taught her kids and grandkids to water ski and would drive the boat while they were flying around behind the boat on the tube. She herself would slalom ski and ride her jet ski. She continued to ride her jet ski on lake Monroe until she was in her 70's and had double knee replacements, when her children advised her to sell her jet ski so that her knees could heal properly. At that time, she purchased a pool so that she could still enjoy the water with her great grandchildren.
Joey will be terribly missed by her friends and family. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests that you remember Joey by always living your life to the fullest, just as she did.
In keeping with Joey and her family’s wishes cremation is planned and no services are to be held at this time. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon were entrusted to the care of these arrangements.
