Marilyn Grace Cornell, 70, of Butlerville, passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Silver Oaks Health Campus in Columbus.
Born June 24, 1953, Fort Dix, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. “Chuck” and Marjorie G. (Ketchem) Cornell.
Marilyn was a 1971 graduate of Nevado High School in Nevado, California she received her teaching degree from Indiana State University in 1975 and later her master’s degree from Indiana University. She was a lifelong teacher of special needs for 40 plus years teaching at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center and Sand Creek Elementary. Marilyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Vernon, Order of the Eastern Star, Indiana State Teacher Association, and I.S.U. Sorority. She helped with Special Olympics. Marilyn enjoyed crocheting and crafts.
Survivors include her brother, Charles Owen “Chuck” Cornell and his wife, Barbara, and her niece, Hannah Elizabeth Cornell of Coos Way, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral service for Marilyn will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Joe Wyatt officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. A committal service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
Memorials may be made in honor of Marilyn through the funeral home to the Special Olympics.
