Marilyn Sue Smith, 82, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at her residence.
Born April 5, 1943, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Max and Ruth Elaine (Roberts) Spurgeon.
Marilyn was a homemaker and enjoyed taking road trips, traveling, ice skating, swimming; she was very adventurous and enjoyed being outdoors. Marilyn loved watching and being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Scott (Victoria) Smith of Butlerville; daughters, Phyllis (Mike) Brooks of North Vernon and Jeanette (James) Deweese of Scipio; brothers, Gerald Spurgeon and Jerry Spurgeon; sisters, Maxine Spurgeon, Carolyn (Irvin) Acton, and Clara (Ken) Mousa, all of Seymour, Margaret Brannam of Bloomington, Illinois; grandchildren, Jacob (Sarah) Brooks of North Vernon; Shawn (Chelsea) Smith and Samantha Smith, all of Butlerville, Lindsey (Andy) Daunhauer of Yorktown, and Michael (Kelsey) Deweese of Indianapolis; and great-grandchildren, Gracie Oden and Jake Brooks, both of North Vernon, Averi Smith, Maelee Smith, and Elynn Smith, all of Butlerville and Ryan Daunhauer of Yorktown.
She was preceded in death by parents; her husband, Allen Smith; brother, Harold Spurgeon; and sister, Jean Shirley.
A funeral service for Marilyn will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Dan Corbin officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Butlerville Cemetery in Butlerville.
Memorials may be made in honor of Marilyn through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
