Marilyn Faye “Wig” (Rockey) Brown, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.
Born July 24, 1938, in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late John Cleveland and Minnie Pearl (Hines) Rockey. She married Ansel Paul Brown on March 24, 1961, in Illinois; he preceded her in death on June 7, 1983.
Marilyn was a 1956 graduate of Vernon High School and worked at the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville, ITT Thompson as a steel operator in North Vernon, Caltherm Corporation and Costco in Columbus, as a janitor for the Jennings County Middle School and Lowes Distribution Center in North Vernon. She was a member of the North Vernon Church of the Nazarene. Marilyn enjoyed going to the gambling boats, playing bingo and euchre; what she loved the most was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sons, Ansel “Scott” (Judi) Brown, Robin Paul Brown, and Timothy Ray (Shelly) Brown, all of North Vernon; sisters, Wilma (Bill) Grider and Edna (Raymond) Ernstes, both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Eli (Nicole) Brown, Lindsay (Jared) Bohall, Hannah (Adam) Cooper and Eric Jordan, all of North Vernon, and Brooklynn (Barrett) Moore of Greensburg; and great-grandchildren, Karter Brown, Konner Brown, Brogan Acre, Brennan Bohall, Breyson Bohall, Raegan Cooper and Reese Cooper, all of North Vernon, and Gemma Moore of Greensburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, John, Bob, Dick and Joseph Rockey; and sisters, Delores Dickson, Shirley Poole and Ruth Marksberry.
A funeral service for Marilyn will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Al Davisson officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
