Marjorie Lou (Stewart) Funke

Marjorie Lou Funke, 85, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018, at Our Hospice of South Central of Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Born April 8, 1933, in Jennings County, the daughter of the late William L.  and Elma N. (Reece) Stewart. She married James Franklin Funke Sr. on September 9, 1956. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2001.

Mrs. Funke was a 1951 graduate of Vernon High School and graduate of Georgetown College and received her Master’s Degree from Indiana University in 1976. She taught language arts for Jennings County Schools for 23 years before retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Zion Baptist Church, Red Cross for 11 years, Jennings County Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and a former member of First Baptist Church in North Vernon. Mrs. Funke enjoyed traveling, gardening flowers and quilting.

Survivors include her son, James F. (Sharon) Funke Jr. of North Vernon; daughters, Dorene N. (Tim) Krawczyk of Elizabethtown and Donna E. (Tony) McIlvenna of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, Harry (Dee) Stewart of North Vernon; sister, Ruby L. Cunningham of Columbus; grandchildren, Jared (Beth ) Krawczyk, Darby Funke, and Harrison Funke all of North Vernon, Jennifer (Jacobi) Campbell of Scipio, Dena Lou Funke of  Kissimmee, Florida, Margaret  McIlvenna of Chicago, Illinois,  Lucas McIlvenna of and Colleen McIlvenna both of Cincinnati, Ohio; six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Stewart Funke; and sister, Emma Jean Stewart.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.  

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or American Cancer Society.
