Martha Ellen (Monday) Lacey

Martha Ellen Lacey, 88, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:33 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at her residence.

Born September 20, 1936, in her mother’s house in North Vernon, she was the daughter of the late Wiliam McKinley and Dolly (Lawrence) Monday. She married Robert Lacey on June 30, 1956, in Jennings County; he preceded her in death on September 25, 2004.

Martha worked at home on the farm and for the Shirt Factory in Columbus, Canning Factory in Austin and Oxford Industries in North Vernon. She was a member of Rush Branch United Methodist Church. Martha enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing Bingo, crocheting, playing cards, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, David Allen (Jackie) Lacey of North Vernon; daughters, Connie Neal and Mary (Terry) Richardson, both of North Vernon; brothers, Richard Monday, Jerry Monday, Kenneth Monday and Bill Monday; sisters, Hattie Rothert, Linda Ross and Gloria Browning; grandchildren, Tenesa Ashpaugh, Troy Neal, Chad Neal, Daniel Richardson, Justin Richardson, Travis Woods, Jessica Lacey and Zackary Lacey; and several great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Harold and Jackie Monday; sisters, Judy Canary, Joann Combest, and Virginia Lamb; and son-in-law, George Neal.

A funeral service for Martha will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Rush Branch Cemetery in Jennings County.
