Obituary

Martha Alline Stewart, 84, of Muncie, passed away at 3:40 a.m. on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Signature Health Care in Muncie.

Martha was born on March 14, 1939, in Paint Lick, Kentucky. She was the daughter of George Wesley and Hallie Lee (Lamb) Bryant.

Martha worked as a nursing assistant for Ball Memorial Hospital for six years before retiring in 1993; she had previously worked at Park View Nursing Home in both Muncie and Elwood, Woodland Nursing Home, and Ball State Dining, both in Muncie. She was a member of Grayford Road Church of God in North Vernon and attended Jackson Park Baptist Church, Destiny Christian Center, and Alpha Center Adult Daycare, all in Muncie. Martha enjoyed taking care of the elderly and participating in senior citizen activities, including words searches, puzzles, and card club, especially playing Euchre.

Survivors include her sons, William Wiley “Buddy” (Dona J.) Stewart Jr. of Muncie and Douglas Wayne (Robyn L.) Stewart of Cincinnati, Ohio; her daughter, Katina Lorrine (Mark) Gaither of Muncie; brother,  Jim (Betty) Lamb of North Vernon; sister, Jewell Dean Grider of North Vernon; sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Bryant of North Vernon and Christine Bryant of Ocala, Florida; grandchildren, Ronnie Ray (Shawna) Foy of Anderson, Billy (Lora Cox) Cunnington of Speedway, Angela Dawn Brees, Jason Gaither, Levi Stewart, Liam Stewart, and Zoe Howell, all of Muncie, Heather Lewman of Fort Pearce, Florida, Thomas Matthew (Amanda) Stewart of Auburn, and Erica Richardson of Cincinnati, Ohio; thirteen great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; and special niece, Deb (Mark) Rufenbarger of Swayzee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Russell, Kenneth, and George Bryant.

A funeral service for Martha will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Tim Poer officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made in honor of Martha through the funeral home to Alzheimer’s Association.
