Marvin Polly Obituary

Marvin Dewey Polly, 87, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:04 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2020, surrounded by his devoted wife, son, and daughter-in-law.  

Born July 22, 1933 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Gilbert H. and Martha Jane (Craft) Polly. He married Betty L. Eversole on May 24, 1958, in Blocher; she survives.

Marvin was a 1952 graduate of North Vernon High School. He went on to attend the University of Louisville, where he played saxophone in the marching band. Marvin was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and spent 19 months in Germany during the Korean War. When he returned home, he began his career at Cummins Engine Company in 1955. After 33 years, he retired from Cummins in 1988. Marvin was the CEO of Polly Distributors for 13 years. He enjoyed watching western movies, especially Roy Rogers, and building model cars and planes. Marvin was an artist who loved to draw and tinker. He also loved to play the stock market.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; son, Montie (Kim) Polly of North Vernon; brother, Don Polly of Naples, Florida; grandchildren, Amie (Matt) Mascara of Lodi, California, Miranda (Damon) Forte of Medford, New Jersey, Heather (Steven) Parrett of Trafalgar, Britney Polly of Franklin, and Lindsey (Brandon) Wallpe of Batesville; and great-grandchildren, Landen Polly of Franklin, Aiden and Gavin Mascara, both of Lodi, California, Jovie and Eli Parrett, both of Trafalgar, and Emersyn Wallpe of Batesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service for Marvin will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Rev. T. Baker officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
