Marvin Collins “MC” Underwood Jr., 79, of Poinciana, Florida formerly of North Vernon, passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Florida.
Born September 28, 1942, in Lebanon, Indiana, he was the son of the late Marvin C. Underwood Sr. and Frances (Hazelwood) Underwood. He married Sharon Kay Schildknecht on February 15, 1964, in Greensburg; she preceded him in death on October 3, 2004
Marvin was a 1960 graduate of Vernon High School and a 1964 graduate of Hanover College and received his master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S Army from 1967-1969. Marvin worked as the Chief Financial Officer for Columbus Regional Hospital before retiring in 1996, he also owned and operated Racks & Reels Sporting Good Store in Columbus for several years starting in 1996. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and basketball, Indy car racing and was an Elvis Presley fan.
Survivors include his son, Devin (Kathryn) Underwood of Indianapolis; daughter, Amber (Ronald Lemay) Underwood of Avon Park, Florida; brother, Michael (Lori) Underwood of North Vernon; and grandchildren, Samantha Underwood and Arie Underwood, both of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his sister, Nora Jean Vandivier.
A funeral service for Marvin will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery with military graveside rites by members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W.
Memorials may be made in honor of Marvin through the funeral home to the Cancer Research Institute or Children’s Miracle Network.
