Mary Lea Layman, 84, of Lebanon, formerly of Jennings County, passed away at 8:25 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at Signature Health Care at Parkview in Lebanon.
Born February 27, 1936, in Shelbyville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Cornelius Marcum and Eula Bell (Smith) Reece. She married Elisha Harlan Layman on August 15, 1953, at the Commiskey Baptist Church in Commiskey; he preceded her in death on November 24, 2012.
Mrs. Layman attended school in Paris Crossing and was a 1954 graduate of Correspondence School in Chicago, Illinois. She worked as a floral designer for several years for Kelley’s Greenhouse in North Vernon. Mrs. Layman was a member of First Marion Baptist Church and a member of the women’s group in the church. She enjoyed flowers and traveling.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda (Wayne) Napier of London, Kentucky and Lila (Chris) Torp of Lebanon; sister, Velma (Lowell) Peacock of Columbus; grandchildren, Evan (Natalie) Napier and Ian (Kelly) Napier, both of London, Kentucky, and Clair Torp and Jaili Torp, both of Lebanon; and great-grandchildren, Rush Napier, Ryker Napier, Amelia Napier and Evelyn Napier, all of London, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
In keeping with her and her family’s wishes, no services are planned at this time. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon.
Memorials may be in honor of Mrs. Layman through the funeral home to EMMCC Food Pantry.
