Mary Lou Wilds – Stiening, 92, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:35 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.
Born April 15, 1931, in Grayson, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Miles Louis and Zella Lou (Spencer) McGrew. She married her first husband, Herbert Wilds on December 4, 1949, and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1996. She married her second husband, Curtis Stiening on September 14, 2000; he preceded her in death on August 26, 2013.
Mary was a 1949 graduate of North Vernon High School and was a lifelong housewife. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Vernon, St. Vincent Jennings Hospital Guild. Her enjoyments included cooking, gardening, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her sons, Herbert Greggory and Garry Wilds, both of North Vernon; her daughters, Cindy York of North Vernon and Cheryl Wilds of Smyrna, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Jane McGrew of Martinsville; fourteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents; her husbands; grandson, Nathaniel Smith; brothers, Donald, Edwin, Russell, and William McGrew; and sisters, Virginia Klendworth, Rebecca Jane Taylor and Margaret Elizabeth Lancaster.
In keeping with the wishes of the family, a private service will be held at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services. The burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
