Maurice Wayne Jackson, 80, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:48 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at his residence.
Born December 14, 1943, in Jennings County, he was the son of the late Elmer Jackson and Pauline Catherine (Burgmeier) Wissel Jackson. He married Diana Kleber on October 14, 1965, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayden; she survives.
Maurice attended Seymour High School and served in the National Guard for six years. He worked at Wissel’s Auto Service in North Vernon for 51 years before retiring in 2010. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Vernon. He enjoyed working, fishing, and hunting.
Surviving with his wife, Diana, are his sons, Jamie Jackson, Phillip (Sheila) Jackson and Andy (Lindsay) Jackson, all of North Vernon; his daughter, Angie (Ray) Phillips of North Vernon; brother, Richard (Betty) Wissel of North Vernon; sister, Jean (John) Nichter of North Vernon; grandchildren, Rachel (Matt) Ross, Tyler Phillips, Dillon Jackson, Tucker Jackson, Gunnar Jackson, and Logan Hall, all of North Vernon, Jesse (Margot) Wallace of Scott, Ohio and Cameron (Carley) Hadley of Columbus; and great-grandchildren, Graci and Gavin Ross, Kamry Phillips, Kinah, Boone, and Sylar Wallace and Rowdy Hall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Dolores Horstman and Wanda June Phillips.
A funeral service for Maurice will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Larry French officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. The burial will follow in the Hayden Cemetery in Hayden.
Memorials may be made in honor of Maurice through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County or the Hayden Historical Museum.
