Maurice Albert Moncrief

Maurice Albert Moncrief, 94, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:19 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020, at his residence.

Born December 20, 1925, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Earl Wilson and Merle Elizabeth (May) Moncrief. He married Phyllis Morris on September 9, 1952, in North Vernon; she survives.

Maurice was a 1944 graduate of Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955. He was a lifelong farmer; he had also worked as a substitute mail carrier and as a school bus driver.  He was a member of the First Christian Church in North Vernon, former ASCS/FSA Board Member, and spent 50 years on the North Vernon Bowling League. He enjoyed watching sports, fishing, hunting, and animals.

Surviving with his wife of 67 years, Phyllis; are his children, Darlene (Wes) Bradshaw, Diane (Russell) Yeager and Grant (Missy) Moncrief, all of North Vernon; grandchildren, Justin (Nicole) Bradshaw, Leslie Bradshaw and Elliott Himebaugh, all of North Vernon, John Yeager, Marilee Yeager and Raven (Jonathan) Polanka, all of Madison, Jasmyn Moncrief, Hayley Moncrief and Falyn Moncrief, all of Westport, and Matthew Duchaine of Seymour; and great-grandchildren, Gary and Catherine Bradshaw of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Moncrief; and his infant twin brother and sister.

A funeral service for Maurice will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Bob Ochs officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 9, 2020, from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with military graveside rites by members of the North Vernon V.F.W.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Vernon High School Alumni Association, or for the Walnut Grove School Maintenance Fund.
