Maurice Allen Smith

Maurice Allen Smith passed away peacefully on August 26, 2021, at the age of 71 in North Vernon, IN. 

Maurice was born in Indianapolis, IN on July 27, 1950, but lived most of his life in southern Indiana.  Maurice was preceded in death by his mother Audrey Mires (2009) and the only father he knew Earl Mires (2016).

Maurice is survived by four brothers William (Dawn) Helfrich, Robert (Tiffany) Helfrich, Michael Mires (Nancy Day) and Gary Mires (Terri Anderson).  Special thanks to friend and caregiver Sue Proffitt for always being there for Maurice the last 5 years of his life.  Maurice loved music, dancing, being with family, $20 bills and bigger, doing dishes, laundry, and any kind of housework.  Maurice will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those who knew him.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on September 18, 2021, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 420 S. State St, North Vernon, IN 47265. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials may be made in honor of Maurice through the funeral home to the Special Olympics.
