Melody Ellen “Mel” Kemp Schiller, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born March 17, 1951, in Seymour, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Emma (Biehle) Kemp. She married Danny Schiller on October 24, 1981, in Commiskey; he preceded her in death on April 18, 2021.
Mel retired as a rug trimmer for the former Regal Rugs in North Vernon and had worked with her husband Danny at Lighthouse Logistics keeping the truck logs. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in North Vernon. Mel enjoyed crocheting and adult coloring books.
Survivors include her sons, Bradley (Crystin) Schiller of Scipio, and Devin Schiller, and Damin Schiller, both of North Vernon; daughters, Kelly (Randall) Hatton of Commiskey and Katyna Schiller of Los Angeles, California; sisters, Beaulah (Charlie) Yeager and Rosie Kemp; granddaughter, Brittany (Tyler) Neal of Commiskey; great-grandchild, Hunter Neal of Commiskey; and niece, Lori (David) Ammerman of Jennings County.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Donald Kemp; and sisters, Mary and Judy Kemp, Anna Burkman, and Barbara Boyd.
A graveside service for Mel will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with the Rev. Ricky Person officiating. The visitation will be held in the cemetery from 1:30 p.m. until the start of the service.
Memorials in honor of Mel may be made through the funeral home for expenses.
