Melvin Edward Wooten, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his residence.
Born March 2, 1951, in Seymour, he was the son of Garrett and Stella (Stidham) Wooten. He married Sharon Foster on October 22, 1976, at the Assembly of God in North Vernon; she survives.
Melvin was a 1970 graduate of Austin High School and worked at Morgan Packing in Austin for several years and at Jennings Summer Furniture in Vernon. He enjoyed fishing, YouTube videos of animals and kids, watching Godzilla and King Kong, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; 3 brothers – Willie and Lonis (Donna) Wooten, both of Austin, Jerry (Marie) Wooten of Crothersville; 2 sisters – Wilma and Thelma Campbell, both of Scottsburg; 2 brothers in laws – James Foster Jr. and Ralph (Cathy) Foster, both of North Vernon; 3 sisters in laws – Wanda (Brad Baker) Lynch and Tammy (Dean) McNutt, both of North Vernon, Becky (Jimmy) Rice of Scottsburg; Special Friend Abigail Mitchell of North Vernon; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters – Mildred Campbell and Vickie Wooten; brother – Barlow Wooten; 2 sisters in law – Curtis and Joy Wooten.
The funeral for Mr. Wooten will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Visitation for friends will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday. Burial will be at the Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
