Michael Dale Porter

Michael Dale Porter, 60, of North Vernon, passed away 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis

Born February 23, 1963, in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of James Ovid “Jim” Porter Sr. and Marcille (Howell) Porter. He married Lynetta Kay “Lynn” Davers on May 15, 1986, at the Easyville Church of Jesus Christ, in Easyville; she preceded him in death on July 8, 2019.

Michael was a graduate of Wichita East High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked maintenance for Qualtronics in Columbus. Michael was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon and played Santa Claus for hospitals and needy children. He enjoyed gardening, playing with dogs, spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, and sitting under his favorite tree.

Survivors include his sons, Michael Steven Porter of Indianapolis and James Ovid Porter Jr., of Bargersville; daughter, Autumn (David) Booth of North Vernon; grandchildren, Landyn Porter and Christopher, Timothy, Elizabeth, Nathaniel, and Zachary Booth, all of North Vernon, and Emberly Porter of Bargersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.  

A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon with the Rev. Caleb Reynolds officiating. Family and friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
