Mike Baker Obituary

Mike Baker, 62, of Commiskey, passed away at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2020, at his residence.

Born April 17, 1957, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Bill and Joan Baker.

Mike graduated from Speedway High School in 1976 and attended Vincennes University for one year following graduation. In 1978, he went to work for Allison Transmission in Indianapolis and was employed there for 24 years. After suffering a stroke in 2002, Mike retired and lived in Greenwood. He was united in marriage to Ramona “Mona” Carter in 1986 and they had one daughter, Ashley Greene. While Mike suffered from mental illness and was diagnosed in his early 20’s, some of his happiest years were spent in Greenwood with Mona raising their daughter. Mike loved his parents’ farm, and he resided there for the final two years of his life. He and his loyal German Sheppard, Champ, would often spend hours together at the farm’s lake. He enjoyed listening to the Eagles, John Mellencamp, and classic rock; watching the Minnesota Vikings and the Indianapolis Colts play football; and IndyCar Racing. He also loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, trucks, and corvettes.

Mike is survived by his mother, Joan Baker of Commiskey; daughter, Ashley (Alex) Greene of Shelbyville; sister, Mary (Tom) Davee of Madison; and grandchildren, Avery and Emery Greene, both of Shelbyville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Baker.
