Minnie Caroline Johnson, 77, of Seymour, passed away at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born October 9, 1948, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah (Lawrence) Spaulding. She married Douglas Lee Johnson Sr. on December 31, 1979, in Indianapolis; he survives.
Minnie attended Seymour High School and was a bartender for 32 years at Chatterbox in Seymour before retiring in 2010. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge and American Legion both in Seymour. Minnie enjoyed playing solitaire on her phone, driving, dancing and listening to music and playing pool and bingo.
Surviving with her husband of 45 years, Douglas, are her sons, Albert (Tracy) Mathews of Seymour, John Mathews of Freetown, Gary (Lisa) White of Columbus, and Douglas (Jessica Sogo) Johnson Jr. of Seymour; daughters, Tamra (Richard Bedwell) Shelton of Seymour and Sarah (Christopher) Richey of Greensburg; brothers Norman Spaulding of Brownstown, Timothy (Roberta) Spaulding of North Vernon, and Robert Wilhite of North Vernon; twenty grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jimmie, Sam, David and Frank Spaulding; and sisters, Annamay Spaulding, Mary Napier, Maxine Heitz and Clara Valentine.
A funeral service for Minnie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Jeremiah Dean officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will follow in the Vermon Cemetery in Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of Minnie through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society.
