Morris Wesley Goodwin

Morris Wesley Goodwin, 85, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:08 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at his residence.

Born December 6, 1938, in Shelby County, he was the son of the late Earl and Jewell (Kehey) Goodwin. He married Waneta Oliver on September 12, 1981, in Jellico, Tennessee; she survives.

Morris attended Burney High School in Burney and attended two years of trade school. He served in the U.S. Navy as a welder on two ships from 1956-1960. Morris was a farmer. He was a member of the Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W., Liberty Baptist Church in Decatur County, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association in Friendship, Fishcreek Long Rifle Association, Am Vet’s, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the Jennings County Senior Center. Morris was a Muscatatuck Wildlife Refuge volunteer and enjoyed black powder rifles, traveling, camping, farm shows, John Deere items and tractors, and gardening. He loved being with his family and friends and going to Burger King every day for breakfast.

Surviving with his wife, Waneta, is his son, Wesley Goodwin of West Virginia; daughters, Cindy Jackson Allino of North Vernon, Dana Jackson of Texas, and Misty Goodwin Danielson, Juanita Goodwin, Patti Meneely, and Bobbi Jenkins, all of Florida; brother, Ivan Goodwin of Florida; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including his niece and caregiver, Buffy Goodwin Hobbs of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service with military honors for Morris will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. David Blazier officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
