On Thursday, July 6, 2023, Naomi Gareta (Peacock) Riley, died peacefully. She was 94.
The beloved mother and grandmother was born to Charles Vernon and Mildred (Wells) Peacock. Naomi was married in 1943 to Wm. Russell Riley.
She is survived by her six children, Janice Boring of Stugis, Michigan, Sherry Shrader of Shelbyville, Jeri Ray of Richmond, Wm. Randall (Ruohua) Riley of Bloomington, Gary Riley of Muncie, and Rhonda (Jack) Brock of Nashville. Two sons, Charles Russell “Rusty” and Rodney Riley; two grandsons, David Boring and Cameron G. Riley; and siblings, William Garfield Peacock, Jackie Wells Matthews, and Marion Grace Beach preceded her in death.
Naomi was a loving grandmother to 16 grandchildren, Paul Boring Sr., Charles Daniel Boring, Andrea (Charles) Flowers, Lori (Bill) Sponsel, Derrick (Jennifer) Boardman, Dara Lynn Boardman, Julie (Jessy) Calderon, Angela (Rocky) Vest, Miranda McDole-Rook, Jennifer (Brian) Eads, Jackqueline (Steven) Cline, Chase (Tamika) Riley, Miranda Riley, and Rusty (Paige) Riley; 23 great grandchildren, and 16 great- great-grandchildren. It could be said that her greatest interest was her family. She was an avid gardener, excellent cook and seamstress. Naomi also loved to read and learn new things-especially in areas that related to health and family.
Naomi retired from Muscatatuck State Hospital in 1989 after 25 years of service and continued to care for others throughout her life. She was baptized on July 18th, 1980, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Naomi was a member of the North Vernon Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 43 years.
A funeral for Naomi will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Minister Jeff Jones officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
