Norma Sallee Obituary

Norma Talmadge (Peyton) Sallee, 100, of Vernon, passed away at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Seymour Crossing in Seymour.

Born December 29, 1925, in Morgan County, Kentucky, the daughter of Arrus and Mary F. (Stacy) Peyton. She married James Milburn Sallee on May 13, 1947, in Rossville, Georgia; he preceded her in death on February 15, 2007.

Norma was the oldest living resident of Vernon. She worked at the former Dog & Suds and several other restaurants and worked for the former Just Rite Supermarket. She was a member of the Vernon Baptist Church in Vernon. Norma enjoyed going to the casino, crocheting, clogging, baking pies, cakes and cookies for women’s clubs.

Survivors include her son Mike (Linda) Sallee of Palmyra; her daughter, Mary Kay (Dennis) Cummings of North Vernon; daughter-in-law, Cindy Salle; sisters, Lavene Hedger and Ella Mae Ramsey, both of Florida; grandchildren, Jennifer (Aaron) Rogers of Orlando, Florida, Desiree Cummings and Denise Leonard, both of North Vernon, Damin Cummings of Indianapolis, Aaron Smith of Seymour, and Melissa Moore of Indiana; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Garry Sallee; daughter, Doris Lynn Chamlee; brothers, Rollan, Dolan, Kenneth, Cortis, Garrett & Gordon Peyton; and sister, Jean Stamper.

A funeral service for Norma will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Don Morris officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made in honor of Norma through the funeral home to Alzheimer’s Association.
