Norma Jean (Abbett) Wood

Norma Jean Wood, 62, of Willow Branch, formerly of North Vernon, passed away at 5:03 p.m. om November 27, 2023, at her residence.

Born February 26, 1961, in Marion County, she was the daughter of the late Norman Dale Abbett and Hilda Elanor (Freese) Steward.

Norma was a 1979 graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis. She was a homemaker and enjoyed making latch hook rugs, word-search puzzles and putting puzzles together.

Survivors include her sisters, Sharon Mayhugh of Willow Branch, Colleen Nevins of Alaska, Patty Abbett of Arlington, and Jan (Lee) Gold of Florida; lifelong friend, Kellie Crow of Indianapolis; nieces and nephews, Doug Uhls, of Bloomington, Jimmy Abbett, and Mark Cunningham, both of Indianapolis; and her fur baby, Miracle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her companion, Ondar Gibson; sisters, Marsha Novak, and Marlene Cunningham; stepfather, Homer Steward; and niece, Stephanie Abbett.

A funeral service for Norma will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. The burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made in her honor through the funeral home to the Brain Research Foundation.
