Pastor Stephen Gil Hawkes, 71, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2020, at his residence.
He was born March 15, 1949, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and was the son of Estes Gale Hawkes and the late Stevanie (Schaffer) Hawkes. He married Bonnie Everett on July 1, 1968 in Renton, Washington; she survives.
Pastor Hawkes was a 1967 graduate of Federal Way High School in Federal Way, Washington, attended High Line Community College in Washington, Asbury College, and graduated from the International Bible Institute and Seminary in Orlando, Florida. He was an ordained minister, having been ordained into the Methodist Church. He had currently been the pastor for Restoration Fellowship Church in Butlerville where he had served as pastor for ten years. He was previously pastor at Burnsville Christian Church in Burnsville for three years and worked as general manager for Colorgraphics Printing Company in Georgia for two years; and for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for three years. He loved being a pastor.
Surviving with his wife, Bonnie, are his children, Angeline (Christopher) Fulbright of Wiley, Texas, Chief Andrew (Tammy) Hawkes of Sunnyvale, Texas and Stephen (Angel) Hawkes of Anna, Texas; father, Estes G. Hawkes of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Emily Hawkes of Dallas, Texas, Ian Craig and Katie-Beth Craig, both of Austin, Texas, Hunter Hawkes of Tyler, Texas and Megan Hawkes of Frisco, Texas; and brother, Gary (Kaye) Hawkes and sister-in-law, Linda Hawkes, both of Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Kenneth Gale Hawkes.
A celebration of life for Pastor Hawkes will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at the Restoration Fellowship Church in Butlerville. Family and friends may call at the Restoration Fellowship Church on Thursday, September 24, 2020, from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the time of the service. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon were entrusted with the care of these arrangements.
