Paul Allen Green, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:37 a.m. on Thursday, October 1. 2020, at Columbus Transitional Care in Columbus.
Born November 9, 1930, in Commiskey, he was the son of the late Sebe and Hazel (Branham) Green. He married Cora Maxine (Moore) Green on December 24, 1951, at the Cana Methodist Church in Jennings County; she survives.
Paul was a 1948 graduate of Paris Crossing High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953. He was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Jennings County retiring in 1991 after 25 ½ years; he had previously work for Arvin’s Industries in North Vernon from 1949 through 1966. He was a member of First Baptist Church, former member of rural letter carriers, and a former member and song leader at Commiskey Baptist Church in Commiskey. Paul enjoyed reading, gospel music and driving cars for local auto dealerships. He was the 1964 track champion at the Jennings County Fairgrounds, church softball league coach for many years, and was on the Paris Crossing High School Basketball Team the year they won the all-county tournament.
Surviving with his wife, Cora, of 68 years are his sons, Mike (Candy) Green of North Vernon, Gary (Ann) Green of Seymour and Steve (Cindy) Green of Columbus; grandchildren, Julie (Jeff) Miller of Nashville, Tennessee, Emily (Adam) Conley of Greenwood, Melinda (Brandon) Wedde of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Ben (Tori) Green of Jonesville; step-grandchildren, Jake Robertson and Bonnie Chambers, both of North Vernon; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marion and Gilbert Green; and sisters, Betty Fippen and Helen Harmon.
A funeral service for Paul will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Don Hadley officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery. The family requests that masks be worn during the visitation and service.
Memorials may be made in honor of Paul through the funeral home to First Baptist Church or Friends of the Library.
