Paul Sharp Obituary

Paul Eugene Sharp, 91, of Scipio, passed away at 5:10 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Born June 13, 1928, in Scipio, he was the son of the late Ozzy and Ruby Mae (Stigdon) Sharp. He married Virginia Lucille “Ginny” Jones on December 12, 1947, in Seymour; she preceded him in death on August 26, 1999.

Paul was a 1945 graduate of Scipio High School and worked on the fuel pump line for Cummins Engine Company for 38 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Browns Corner Chapel in Jennings County, where he served as a trustee and was a Sunday School and Bible School Teacher; He was also a member of the Diesel Workers Union. Paul enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, going arrowhead and mushroom hunting, watching local baseball teams and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Bill) Cummings and Linda (Tim) Martin, both of Scipio, Lois Burkman of Elizabethtown and Nancy (John) Hughes of North Vernon; sisters, Nadine Reed of Elizabethtown and Mary King of North Vernon; grandchildren, Shannon (Tonya) Burkman and Jenni (Jonathan) Hash, both of Elizabethtown, Heather Cummings and Deanna Cummings, both of Indianapolis, Ryan (Charla) Cummings, Shelly (Darren) Ritchie, Aaron Hughes, all of North Vernon,  Kimberly Cummings, and Jesse Martin, both of Scipio, Jamie (Charlie) Malcomb of Hartsville, Jonathan Martin of Jeffersonville and Jason (Gina) Martin of Columbus; sixteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Don and Charles Sharp; and sisters, Velma Richard and Kathleen Fillenworth.   

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, in the Reddington Cemetery in Reddington with Rev. Mark Hammel officiating. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service was entrusted with the care of these arrangements.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Paul to Browns Corner Chapel or Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
