Peggy Ann Murphy, 80, of Dupont, passed away at 8:52 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.
Born October 16, 1940 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Harvey and Ruby (Banister) Sweany. She married John B. Murphy Sr. on August 21, 1955, in Butlerville; he preceded her in death on September 26, 1999.
Peggy was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of Graham Baptist Church in Jennings County, where she was a member of the Secret Sisters group in the church and volunteered in the kitchen for Bible School. Peggy enjoyed gardening, flowers, hummingbirds, knitting and crocheting. She really enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include sons, John (Kim) Murphy Jr. of North Vernon, Dale Murphy and Carell Harvey (Peggy Ann) Murphy, both of Dupont; daughter, Nancy Lee Hawkins of Vincennes; brothers, Pat (Jeanie) Sweany of North Vernon, Carl (Brittany) Sweany of Bicknell, and Bob Sweany of Vincennes; sisters, Louise Dillon of Princeton, Nancy Mae Murphy of Washington, Carolyn Bennett and Patricia Young, both of Vincennes and Juanita (Donald) Bott of Dupont; grandchildren, Violet Hawkins of Vincennes, Ashley (Michael) Johnston of North Vernon, Heather (Andrew) Morin of Commiskey, Barbara (Alan Pettit) Murphy of Dupont, Michael Murphy of Butlerville, and Joshua (Kelly) Combest of Greensburg; great-grandchildren, Connor Morin of Commiskey, Natalee Dukes, Steven Dukes, Addisyn Murphy all of North Vernon, Cameron Pettit, Alaina Pettit, and Sophia Pettit, all of Dupont, Grayson Murphy of Butlerville, Dalton Combest and Dakota Combest, both of Greensburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Butch Sweany; 3 infant sons; great-grandson, Dawson Murphy and a great-grandchild.
A funeral service for Peggy will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2020, and one hour prior the service on Friday. Burial will follow in the Graham Baptist Cemetery in Jennings County.
Memorials may be made in honor of Peggy through the funeral home to the Graham Baptist Church.
