Peggy Ellen Roberts

Peggy Ellen Roberts, 70, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:03 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at her home.

Born June 28, 1954, in Seymour, she was the daughter of the late Francis Fleming and Dorothy (Robertson) Bowerly. She married Robert L. Roberts on February 22, 1982, in Seymour; he preceded her in death in 2009.

Peggy graduated from Jennings County High School in 1972. She worked for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for 30 years and for the Madison State Hospital in Madison for 5 years as a housekeeper. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon and a former member of the Jennings County Dominiques. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing Yahtzee with her best friend, Coral, and spending time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her son, Blake (Sarah) Roberts of North Vernon; daughters, Erin (Stephen) Mitchell of Dupont and Mackenzie (James Viers) Roberts of North Vernon; stepson, Chris Bowling of North Vernon; brother, Thomas Bowerly of Tennessee; sisters, Jane Bear of Dupont, Lola (John) Post of Vernon, Callie Anderson of North Vernon, and Marsha (Ken) Burke and Phyllis Holland, both of Alabama; sister in-law, Wilma Fleming of North Vernon; grandchildren, Amberly (Jordan) Kent, Thomas (Ashley) Bowling, and Cole Roberts, all of North Vernon, Ryan (Lauren Teike) of Franklin, Ashlee Bello of Columbus, and Dalton Mitchell and Stephany Mitchell, both of Dupont; great grandchildren, Atlas Bosely of Columbus and Coltyn Moore, Collins Kent, Chevy Bowling, and Remington Bowling, all of North Vernon; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Patrick Fleming, Gordon Bowerly, and Michael “Chub” Fleming; stepfather, Thomas Bowerly; stepmother, Barbara Fleming; nephew, Clint Bear; niece, Heather Holland; brother in-law, Bobby Bear.

A funeral service for Peggy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with Rev. Aaron Williams and Pastor Jim Terry officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
