Phillip Andrew “Keno” Hartwell, 78, of North Vernon, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born June 28, 1942, in Vernon, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Esther J. (Robbins) Hartwell. He married Olive Lavonne Baker on February 7, 1976, in North Vernon; she preceded him in death on November 24, 2015.
Keno was a 1961 graduate of Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with the Jennings County Highway Department for 30 years. He was a member of Matt Hester Post #2021 and enjoyed fishing and playing cards
Survivors include his step-daughters, Cathy (Donald) Shuler, Betty (Richard) Schneider, Judy Mullikin and Shelly (Larry) Biehle all of North Vernon and Connie (David) Geis of Seymour; grandchildren, Patricia (Ron) Hendershot of Vernon, Ronald (Ardena) Mullikin, Leah (Brian) Gault, Crystal Shuler, Dustin Shuler, Stacy (Tyler) Morris and Mike (Erica) Schneider, all of North Vernon, Jonathon Anderson of Indianapolis, Tammy (Jason) Harrell of Seymour, James (Suzy) Carmer of Dupont, Mike (Christy) Hurst of Colorado, Larry (Kasie) Biehle, Jr., Amy (Josh) Voss of Commiskey, and Jessica (Greg) Browning of Deputy; several step-great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; step-son, Roger Carmer; brother, Russell Hartwell, and sisters, Edie Dunn, Roberta Sandlin, Marcella Patton and Shirley Adams.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2021 in the Baldwin Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the American Heart Association.
