Ralph Edward Johnson Sr, 76, of North Vernon, passed away on March 23, 2026, at his home.
Born August 13, 1949, in Franklin, Ohio, he was the son of Edward Johnson and Christine (West) Johnson. He married Brenda Kay (Lucas) Johnson on October 5, 1968, in Jennings County and she preceded him in death on February 10, 2026.
Ralph attended San Jacinto school and worked as a hammerman and supervisor for 40 years at North Vernon Forge and then retired from NVIC after 7 years of employment. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes and cards, and always enjoyed having a “nice cold beverage” with friends and family.
Survivors include his sons, Ralph Edward (Rebecca Norene) Johnson Jr. of Osgood and David Michael Johnson of North Vernon; daughters, Samantha Kay (Jeff) Armstrong and Betty Christine Johnson, both of North Vernon; brother, David Johnson of North Vernon; sisters, Tammy Hacker, Charlotte Johnson, and Carolyn Johnson, all of North Vernon; grandchildren, Ashley Armstrong, Ryan Runge, Brett Motley, Emmy Lou Fitzgibbon, Isabelle Johnson and David “Tater” Johnson, all of North Vernon, and Ralph Johnson III of Osgood; great-grandchild, Ralph Johnson IV of Osgood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sisters Alice Hacker and Myrtle Gerth.
A funeral service for Ralph will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in honor of Ralph through the funeral home for expenses.
