Randall Hal Koons, 83, of North Vernon, passed away December 22, 2025, at his residence after an extended illness.
Born on August 28, 1942, in Switzerland County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Carroll and Elva Mae Koons. He married Nancy Jo (Argabright) Koons on March 6, 1967; she survives.
Following graduation from Patriot High School in Switzerland County in 1961, Randall joined the U.S. Army. He served his country from November 1961 to November 1963 as a tank operator and was stationed in Germany for a portion of his service. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Randall returned home and found employment with Kocolene Oil Company. Randall worked for 35 years at Kocolene Oil Company until his retirement, starting as a gas station attendant and retired as a District Manager.
In addition to spending time with his family, watching open wheel racing, NASCAR, and IU basketball, Randall’s favorite past time was watching his grandchildren play travel baseball, basketball, softball, and swimming. He was their #1 fan, often traveling out of the state to attend a grandchild’s sporting event.
In addition to his wife, Nancy Jo (Argabright) Koons, Randall is survived by his three children, Angela (Kevin) Miller of North Vernon, Randy (Amanda) Koons of North Vernon, and Candace (Jeff) Hollan of Scottsburg; ten grandchildren, John Miller of North Vernon, Sam (Darian) Miller of Scottsburg, Megan (Jake) Hackney of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ashton (Aaron) Dees of North Vernon, Katie Koons of North Vernon, Schuyler Harper of London, Kentucky, Dawson (Kaitlyn) Robinson of London, Kentucky, Lance Harper of Scottsburg, Kylie Harper of Scottsburg, Jordon (Paige) Bristol of Scottsburg, and Carson (Bella) Bristol of Indianapolis; and five great-grandchildren, Isabella Miller, Hudson Miller, Saige Bristol, Sutton Bristol, Olivia Robinson, and Aurora Hackney. Also surviving is his brother, Rex (Judy) Koons of Florida; and two sisters, Roberta (Howard) Young of Dupont and Rebecca (Fred) Hunt of Florence; brother-in-law, David (Lisa) Argabright of Noblesville; and sisters-in-law, Bernice Koons of Milan, Mary Florence Koons of Harrison, Ohio, Judy (Guy) Barnett of Florida, Jody Shetter of Perry Park, Kentucky, and Polly Wheeler of Greensburg. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Randall was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell (Violet) Koons, Roy (Juanita) Koons, Ray (Mary) Koons, Ralph (Ruth) Koons, Ronald (Bernice) Koons, Robert (Mary Florence) Koons, Richard (Brenda) Koons, Renny Koons, Raymond Koons; sister, Juanita (Jay) Hunt, and his father/mother-in-law, Joseph Argabright and Phyllis Argabright Elsey.
A memorial service for Randall will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with Pastor Mike Cammack officiating and eulogy by David Argabright. The visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Military honors will be provided by the members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W.
Memorials may be made in honor of Randall through the funeral home to Amedisys Hospice in Jeffersonville.
