Raymond Roman "Ray" Pilarski

Raymond Roman “Ray” Pilarski, 92, of Medora, formerly of North Vernon, passed away at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at his residence.

Born September 3, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Raymond H. and Rose (Zmuda) Pilarski. He married his first wife, Vinie Imogene Schmidt in December of 1952; she preceded him in death in February of 1996. He married his second wife, Virginia “Ruth” Kinnaman on June 29, 2002, at the Tea Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County; she preceded him in death on January 29, 2021.

Ray attended Blue Island High School in Blue Island, Illinois and served in the United States Army from 1953-1954. He worked in claims for Allstate Insurance for 24 years, retiring in 1986. Ray was a former member of Tea Creek Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion in Lansing, Michigan. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and bowling.

Survivors include his son, Dan (Laura) Pilarski of Bloomington; his daughter, Donna (Tom) Thompson of Medora; stepdaughters, Cheryl (David) Miller and Tonja (John) Castetter, both of Butlerville, and Carol (Jerry) Soutiere of Marathon, Florida; grandchildren, Beatrice Pilarski of Bloomington, Angela Marie (Evan) Walsh of Tampa, Florida, Steven Ray Holstein, Stella Marie (Anthony) Mills, Autumn (Leighton) Moore, Chelsie (Josh) Cross, Damian (Tiffany) Matern, and Dale (Chelsey) Matern, all of North Vernon, Adrian Miller of Butlerville, Dustin Matern of Franklin, and Devin (Rie) Matern of Whiteland; and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and his second wife.

A funeral service for Ray will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorial donations may be made in honor of Ray though the funeral home to the Indiana Donor Network.
