Rev. Edward Leon "Butch" Wooddell

Rev. Edward Leon “Butch” Wooddell Jr., 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at his residence.  

He was born on July 6, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Edward Leon Wooddell Sr. and Lora White Wooddell. He married Patricia Ann Helton on September 5, 1964, in Nebraska; she survives.

Butch was a Pastor for 35 years preaching at Christ Baptist Church in North Vernon and for Nebraska Church of God in Nebraska. He retired in 2005 from Martinrea (Arvin’s) after 39 years and worked security for Faurecia in Columbus from 2013 until 2019. He was a member of Christ Baptist Church in North Vernon and a former member of Nebraska Church of God in Nebraska. He was a member of Nebraska Boys Club for 16 years and Holton Boys Club for four years. He served on the Archer Board of Directors for seven years. Butch enjoyed canoe/kayak racing, motorcycles, fabricating tools and vehicles. He also enjoyed attending Daytona, Florida Bike Show and Rolling Thunder in Washington D.C.

Surviving with his wife, Patricia Wooddell of North Vernon, are his children, Edward Leon (Tammy) Wooddell III of Zenas, Theresa (Jeremy) Buchanan of Pendleton and Tonya (Robbie) Moore of Nebraska; brother, Ross (Rebecca) Newman of Florida; sisters, Mossie Fultz of Florida and Loretta Ponsler of Zanesville, Ohio; grandchildren, Jacob (Jenna) Wooddell of Martinsville, Rachaellen (Jeffery) Murr and Kimberly (Ethan) Cloud, both of Indianapolis, Daniel (Melody) Mount of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Ian Buchanan, Chandler Buchanan and Lucinda Buchanan, all of Pendleton, Skyler Moore, Peyton Moore and Allison Moore, all of Nebraska; and great-grandchildren, Emmi Murr, Benjamin Murr, and Elli Murr, all of Indianapolis, Gideon Wooddell of Martinsville, and Riley Mount of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Trever Jay Wooddell.

A funeral service for Butch will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon, with Edward Wooddell III and Rev. Jimmy Kuntz officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service.  

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Christ Baptist Church.
