Robert Dean Carmer, 82, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:28 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at his residence.
Born September 2, 1943, in Columbus, he was the son of Paul David and Mary Helen (Kucker) Carmer. He married Connie Cooper on February 8, 1981, at the Church of God in Commiskey; she survives.
Robert was a 1962 graduate of Columbus Senior High School; he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 until 1969. Robert was a set up foreman for N.A.C. for 10 years before retiring in 2007. He volunteered for the Good Samaritan Food Pantry for 13 years and was a member of the Salvation Army and Am Vets Post #7. Robert enjoyed fishing, mowing grass and woodworking.
Surviving with his wife of 44 years, Connie; his son, Kevin James (Thais Bertolini) Carmer of Greensburg; his daughter-in-law, Deanna Large of Queensville; brothers, Paul David Carmer of Westport and Bernie Carmer of Florida; sister, Shirley Lee Newton of North Vernon; grandchildren, Adrian Gordon of North Vernon, Isabella Carmer of Greensburg, Kaiden Gordon of Indiana, and Nicholas Carmer of Greensburg; and two great-grandchildren, Elaine Gordon and Graham Gordon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph Thomas, Donald Lee and Richard Thomas Carmer; sisters, Erma Mae Inness and Beverly Sue Banks; and stepson, Danny Raymond Large.
A funeral service for Robert will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Jim Terry officiating. Honor Guard services will be performed by VFW Matt Hester Post #2021 of North Vernon. The visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will take place at a later date at the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
