Robert "Bob" William Hallawell

Korean Conflict Veteran Robert “Bob” William Hallawell, 95, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 17, 2024, at home in North Vernon, Indiana, with his daughters by his side.

Born April 11, 1929, in North Vernon, Indiana, Robert was the son of the late William and Mildred (Hartel) Hallawell. He married Tressia Barnes on October 25, 1953, at the New Bethel Church in Jennings County; she preceded him in death on March 17, 2019.

Robert, a 1947 graduate of North Vernon High School, was the third-generation owner of Hallawell’s Feed Store. He was the second inductee into the Hayden Historical Museum’s Lead the Field Agricultural Hall of Fame in 1999. Robert was a Past Master of the North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59. He is a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served 17 months in 1951-1952. Robert was also a member of North Vernon First United Methodist Church.

Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, attending auctions, collecting antiques and North Vernon artifacts, and playing cards.

In addition to his wife and parents, Robert is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Hallawell, and sister, Mary Losey.  

Survivors include his daughters, Debra Johnson and Jo Ann Hallawell, both of North Vernon; granddaughter, Lisa (Jason) Wools of Greenwood; great-grandchildren, Morgan Wools, Carson Wools, and Keaton Wools, all of Greenwood; and several nieces and nephews.  

A memorial service for Robert will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the Masonic Memorial Service at 6:45 p.m. by members of North Vernon Masonic Lodge.

In keeping with his wishes, Robert will be cremated, and a private interment ceremony will occur later at the Vernon Cemetery.

Robert’s family would like to thank family, friends, and the staff and volunteers of St. Croix Hospice for all the cards, thoughts, prayers and caregiving.
