Ruth May Smith

Ruth May Smith, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:11 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2020, at her residence.

Born October 23, 1933, in Osgood, she was the daughter of Roy Lester and Edith (Rose) Smith.

Ruth was a 1951 graduate of Scottsburg High School and a 1955 graduate of the Indiana School of Business. She worked in the office of Harmon Construction retiring in 1995, she had previously worked in the office for the former Vernon Summer Furniture Factory in Vernon. Ruth was a member of the Westport Wesleyan Church and a former member of North Vernon Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed attending church and revivals.

Survivors include her brother, Benet (Cindy) Smith of Butlerville; niece, Shelly Spurlock of Seymour; nephew, Shane Forwalt Sr. of Westport; great nieces, Chesnee May Jones of Seymour, Faith Forwalt, Gracie Forwalt, and Hope Forwalt, all of Butlerville; and great-nephew, Shane Forwalt Jr of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Roy Smith.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020, at the Westport Wesleyan Church in Westport with the Rev. Glen Black and Rev. Paul Hornberger officiating. Family and friends may call 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon, and one hour prior to the service on Friday, at the church. Burial will follow in the Holton Cemetery in Holton.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Ruth to the Westport Wesleyan Church.
