Ruth Ann Steeb-Long

Ruth Ann Steeb-Long, 73, of Commiskey, passed away on December 13, 2023, at her residence.

Born November 21, 1950, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late, Richard and Elizabeth Ann (Eland) Steeb.

Ruth was a 1967 graduate of Roncalli High School in Beech Grove and earned her master’s degree. She was a School Teacher for Scott County District 1 for 20 plus years before retiring. Ruth was a member of Church of the American Martyrs, in Scottsburg and formerly active at St. Joseph and St. Mary’s Catholic Churches in North Vernon. She volunteered for St. Vincent DePaul and AmeriCorps. Ruth enjoyed volunteering and helping others and being with her grandchildren. She was also a foster parent for 30 years.

Survivors include her sons, Richard (Katelyn) Long of Morristown, and David Morgan of Austin; daughter, Anna Long of Richmond, Virginia; sisters, Lois Steeb of Columbus, Barbara Raye, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Rickie (Jerry) Long of Greenwood, Eileen (Steve) Washington, Vickie Goldsby, and Laura Steeb, all of Indianapolis; and grandchildren, Liam Long, Lucy Long, and Lyle Long, all of Morristown.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Steeb.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayden with the Rev. Jerry Byrd officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:45a.m.  at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. The burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
